Best Friend?

I'd like to pose a question. I would like to think of my son as being a best friend, yet the supposed authorities on raising children say that it undermines your parenting skills. They seem to feel that you might let your kids get away with things because they are your friends. Hmm... I take it that these people obviously don't value their friends enough to think that they might let them make bad choices in life. Just as I would like to see my friends walk a road of peace and contentment; free of pain, trouble and hardships, so too, would I wish the same for my loving son, my best friend. What do you think? I'd really like to know.

You know damn well that authorities
and you will never be on the same
channel, their goals and yours just won't match.
You love your son, authorities want
your son to serve their own purpose

Well, you asked for opinions... here's my less than two cents. You can be your son's parent AND friend, but when or if those roles ever collide, he needs you in the parent role at those times.

Yes, Abby, my parenting comes first. I feel I can safely walk that line. Thanks for your $0.02!
